Honeypots Nursery and Rugby Nippers

One of our aims for Rugby Nippers was to have it integrated in the community allowing many children to have the opportunity of trying rugby. To this end, we got in touch with Honey Pots Nursery in Luncarty to offer a couple of classes to their young nippers.

We all had a fab session! We started off with fun, warm up games and had them all running around to get them ready for the next stage of the session. This focusses on familiarisation drills, getting the nippers used to the shape of the ball as many will have played more with the circular shape rather than oval. We then encourage them to use their imagination, count and learn about colours through small group games where they are educated on scoring tries, passing and catching balls. Throughout all of this the focus is on having fun in an educational, open environment. The nippers loved it!

The session ends with a small cool down and the nippers were ready to get back to nursery for a drink and a snack.

The staff were fantastic, taking part with enthusiasm and ensuring that everyone got involved, it was an absolute pleasure to work with them. A huge thank you to the team at Honeypots and see you soon!
